The 4Cs has been tracking SB 749, An Act Requiring Legislative Approval for the Merger or Closing of Institutions within the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities, all legislative session. If passed, this bill would require legislative approval for any community college mergers or closings.
President Ojakian has advocated against the bill. However, the 4Cs thinks it is critical that stakeholders, including students and community members, should be able to voice their support or opposition to elected officials, whom they are able to hold accountable. The Board of Regents members are all appointed, so even if they hear from stakeholders, they are not accountable to them.
The bill is currently in the Senate and may be acted upon this week. The 4Cs is asking you to please contact your State Senator, via this legislative alert. You are able to edit the text of the letter if you would like to personalize it. Please note that when you add your home mailing address, the system will automatically identify your legislator.
