The Delegate Assembly approved putting forth a question to the members on the ballot, revising the date that members approved for sabbatical leave applications.

Why is the Delegate Assembly putting this forth to members?

• During contract negotiations, the three union presidents of the 4Cs, AFT, and AFSCME agreed to a common due date and language for sabbatical leave applications. The agreed upon date that sabbatical applications were due was the first day of the spring academic semester (see Tentative Agreement, #7). It was put forth to our members and ratified.
• After our members ratified the change, the AFT union determined that the spring date was not feasible and agreed to keep the deadline for sabbatical leave applications as November 15.
• The System Office left the November 15 deadline for sabbatical leave applications in the 4Cs Contract, and we have been discussing it now for over nine months.
• The System wants to have a unified due date for sabbatical leave applications for the three unions.
• During this academic year, the campuses abided by the November 15 deadline.

Why is the Delegate Assembly recommending this change?

• The 4Cs has heard from our members that the first day of spring semester as the due date for sabbatical leave applications is a problem, mainly because of the timeline is too compressed.
• Common language and dates with the other unions means a smoother administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Therefore, the Delegate Assembly recommends ratification of a change of the date that sabbatical leave applications are due from the first day of the spring semester to November 15.

This question will appear on the ballot in conjunction with the 4Cs Statewide Officers Election, which begins on April 3. The attached Article on sabbatical leave will be the language we are asking you to approve. The date in question is highlighted.
