CSCU Restructuring

October 18, 2017

At the BOR meeting on Thursday, President Ojakian will be updating the Board and public on the CSCU Restructuring plan known as "Students First."

Yesterday, CSCU President Ojakian met with 4Cs President Bryan Bonina and other union presidents around the same time that he announced the latest update to both the media (read Hartford Courant article here) and the CSCU community (letter here).

At the face-to-face meeting President Ojakian recognized the collectively bargained SEBAC layoff protection language and stated there would be "no reduction of unionized workforce." However, sharing resources between the campuses will likely become more common as state resources continue to decline and our enrollment percentages stay flat or decrease.

Our primary responsibility at the 4Cs is to make certain that our members' jobs are safe throughout this process; we also know that our members' focus is on the students - making sure the programs and support services that the community colleges offer remain first rate and affordable. The 4Cs will continue to keep all of these factors in mind as we monitor this process moving forward.

The BOR meeting will be held on October 19 at 10am at 61 Woodland Street. The agenda can be viewed here.
